11th and Perdonar Commentary

Hello everyone! I thought I’d give a little companion post to one of my stories on this website. It’s called 11th and Perdonar!

The theme of this story is about forgiveness and love. It circulates around two main characters and their relationship, and how their interactions change each other.

I got this idea based on the idea of love for a person with nothing to give back in return. Like most story ideas, it sat in my head for a while until something kicked it out. In this case, it was a school assignment to write a short story. I decided to use this idea and expanded it to be about a woman helping her father. They got personalities and worldbuilding, then I wrote the story!

The two main characters are Maria Flores and her father, Carlos Flores. Maria is a hard-working businesswoman, and Carlos is about as low as they come. Maria is tired of having to push through her father’s mistakes to get where she wants to be.

Throughout the story, Maria learns that she needs to put aside the past and realize Carlos is a new person now, and that’s what makes her grow. And in the end she decides to help Carlos get a job and support him.

There is some dialogue in Spanish throughout the story. I’ve tried to make it as accurate as I can. I do my best to add a variety of cultures in my stories. Most of it is readable without a Spanish translation, but “Perdonar,” which is a street name and also in the title of the story, means “to forgive.”

There is also a connection, which hasn’t been canonically mentioned yet. But Maria, after this story, becomes the mother of a character in my current WIP, Bolt. His name is Travis, and he also uses many Spanish phrases.

Let me know if you have any questions about this story, and I’d be happy to answer them! Thank you all for reading, and I’ll see you next time!
